California

During the third week in August one of my good friends Nina (see Blog from June) invited us to join her and her family for a taping of the Disney show Wizards of Waverly Place. Nina's college roommate's daughter is "Harper" in the series. Anthony, Miranda and Mary were able to make the trip. Unfortunately, Mileah was not old enought to attend the taping , so she stayed at home with Mike planning her future trip without the others. What a fabulous trip!!! We arrived on a Tuesday, toured Hollywood, Beverly Hills and Melrose and then attended the taping. On Wednesday we visitied Disney, and spent Thursday morning on Venice beach and toured malibu in the afternoon. I inclued a group shot of the kids with Jennifer Stone and individual shots with the show's star, Selena Gomez.

Vacation in Austin

During the first week in August, Mike's sister Mary Beth, husband Ed and kids Katie and Kevin joined us for a vacation in Barton Creek Resort near Austin, Texas. It was a fun filled and adventurous week for the entire group. We visited the Barton Springs, went kayaking, zip lined through the tops of trees,and took a Segway tour around Austin.

House Guest

On July 21, 2008, I received this e-mail from a good friend at the church. I did not include the extensive list of others that also received this e-mail because I of course was the only person to fit the bill!!!!

Hello Everyone;

I was contacted today by the Baylor Grapevine Hospital, (they told me they contacted us instead of GRACE because the lady is Catholic) they have a lady there by her daughter’s beside that is in ICU, this lady is here on a hardship visa from Mexico as her daughter is gravely ill and they are not sure if she will pull thru, the daughter is in her early 40’s. The mother does not have anywhere to stay and the hospital staff realized she had been living in the waiting room for the past 4 days as her daughter is from Minnesota and was just visiting friends in Carrolton when she became ill. The mother hasn’t any money and the hospital has given her food vouchers for the cafeteria, if any of you know of someone who wouldn’t mind letting her stay with them for a few days that would be great, she only speaks Spanish so that is going to eliminate some of us as I’m sure she could really use a friend to talk to right now as well, If we are not able to find a family for her to stay with, I am going to put her up in a hotel for a bit, I can only do that for so long though, she mainly just needs somewhere to sleep and someone able to take her back and forth from the hospital, I would also reimburse a family for gas and food as well, and would gladly put her in my home if any of us here spoke Spanish! Please let me know if you know of someone willing to “adopt” her for a few days to a week, my home number is: 817-283-8767 and my cell is : 817-271-5246 I figured I’d just email everyone to put all of our heads together on this one!!!!! Also if I could also ask if we could all pray for her and her daughter, God Bless, Mary

Agropina (Pina) stayed with us for 3 weeks. Her daughter Margarita, had an emergency amputation of her left leg on 7/23/08 and against all odds recovered enough to fly back to her home and husband in Minnesota on August 15, 2008. Agropina was so sweet. She spoke absolutely no English!!! She loved being around the kids and having a place to stay, and we truely enjoyed having her. I am proud to say that I am once again fluent in spanish, if you don't pay too much attention to grammar.

Austin

Mike took Evan, Sean and a neighbor, Mason to Barton Creek Golf Resort while I was in Disney. They had a great time playing golf, kayaking and most important to the group---eating!!!! The swimming at Barton Springs was refreshing.

Disney

I took Anthony and the girls to Disney last week. We had a blast!!! We rode all of the wildest rides including: Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, Tower of Terror, Mission Space,Soarin', Test Track, Rock'n'Roller Coaster and Expedition Everest. We visited Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Animal Kingdom and MGM. We went with my friend Nina and her two kids. Nina's son Christopher is autistic so we were given a special pass that allowed us to go on all of the rides without waiting in line. We rode all of the rides (except the kiddie rides) 3-4 times. We also ate at some great restaurants.

We ran in the Dragon Fire 5K run this morning. Mary received a 1st place medal for her age group with a time of 25 minutes. Miranda and Anthony both beat their previous times , and I came in 11th in my age group---my stategy is to out live the other competetors so that some day when I'm in my sixties or seventies, I might have a shot at first place.

Dion

Mike visited Dion at The Nelson Center on Friday. Dion is progressing in therapy and continues to do well in school.

Welcome to the Meehan Family Blog

It's no secret to my family and friends that my communication skills over the years have been minimal at best. With the help of my younger co-workers, I am attempting to join the world of technology---yeah, I know that I still can't use most of the features on my cell phone, and forget about trying to play a video or DVD---just consider this a work in progress!!! I am currently waiting for Sean to return from school and show me how to download pictures from my camera and add them to my blog. Stay tuned!!!
